A BILL

To eliminate the numerical limitation on the number of aliens granted asylum who may become lawful permanent residents in any fiscal year.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. ELIMINATION OF CAP ON PERSONS ELIGIBLE TO ADJUST STATUS FROM ASYLEE TO PERMANENT RESIDENT.

    (a) IN GENERAL- Section 209(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1159(b)) is amended--

      (1) by striking `Not more than 10,000 of the' and all that follows through `available by the' and inserting `The'; and

      (2) by striking `to adjust' and inserting `may adjust'.

    (b) EFFECTIVE DATE- The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act and shall apply to applications for adjustment of status pending on or after such date.
